The Art of Cassie Newlin /Llumin Nate
You know that feeling when
You're totally and completely immersed in a task and everything else melts away?
You're in flow. Time is gone. Everything collapses into the current moment- which can be an hour, two or three, or even just a few endless minutes. It doesn't matter. Nothing does. It is my favorite place to be. I've come here while drawing, writing, dancing, massaging, and many other random activities. Speaking. Performing. Listening.
A trance is induced. Healing is here.
This is what art is to me. It comes in many forms, and is beautiful in all of them.
THE EYEBALL-HAND CHOP-STICK PIC DOESN'T HAVE A NAME
And I don't have that piece anymore. It was the product of a few coffee-fueled hours at Rochambo on Brady and promptly gifted to a cheery barista who always shared his optimistic and cheery energy with Jake and I when he we came in. (This was before we kicked coffee.)
I don't know what became of this piece, but I did snap a picture before giving it away. At the time, I had just moved to MKE and started massage school. I didn't have a job and was looking for one. I charged the piece with the intention of "GET ME A JOB." I was hoping to work at Rochambo, but I was totally open to anything else- as long as I would have what I needed to buy food and pay rent in this new, strange and exciting city. So the intention was set, the piece was parted with, and within minutes, the cheery barista-guy came upstairs and said, "Hey- there's a woman downstairs doing interviews for a new restaurant that is opening!" I went down and met her, had a short interview, filled and app and got a job. Bim-bam-boom. Intention setting worked. Regardless of whether or not "MAGIC(k?)" exists, I've come to believe that there are unseen forces looking out for us.
Your unique expression can teach you much about yourself. The following pieces each had a lesson for me. Some are finished, some are not. The over-arching theme has been that things are as they are. We may make changed by adding to the world, but removing our marks completely is difficult and not always possible. Perhaps, if you accidentally mark a pristine area that you intended to remain that way, there was a lesson in that for you. Do you fight AGAINST the energy, or MOVE WITH IT? What does this tell you about who you are as a person?
I & II
THE RENUNCIATE II IS CURRENTLY THE MOST TIME-INTENSIVE, DETAILED AND LARGEST PIECE I HAVE EVER WORKED ON
There are two different pieces that went through a journey to come to where the Renunciate is now. I destroyed the first piece and used the pain invoked from its destruction to create my (currently unfinished) masterpiece, the Renunciate II. Use the side scroll to learn more...
